Bellevue Nebraska Real Estate Listings

Bellevue, Neb., was originally intended to be the state capital. When this didn’t occur, the growth of Bellevue became stagnant. Founded in 1822 as a fur trading post, Bellevue has managed to overcome it’s isolated state to boom to a city of 44,382 people as of 2000. The building of the Kennedy Freeway has caused a new influx of residents to the area. This has prompted a whole new influx of both civilian and commercial residents with a building economy.

Practically on the Nebraska-Iowa border, Bellevue’s history has been defined by its neighboring cities. The development of Omaha and the Offutt Air Force Base brought many settlers to the area in the mid 1900s, accelerated even further by more development in the last decade. Even today, most of the jobs are outside of the city, with an average loss in population of 26.2 percent due to commuting for jobs. There are benefits to small-city living, one of which is its affordability. A home can be found for as cheap as $70,000 if all you are looking for is a one-bedroom home for a small family. You can expect a salary around the median income of $47,201.

Plenty of the charm comes from the historical aspect of the city. One such feature is the First Presbyterian Church, one of the first formal buildings of the city. Other such buildings include the Fontenelle Bank, the old log cabin and the Railroad Depot. All of these buildings date back to the 1850s when the city was first being established. Homes in this neighborhood keep with this old city charm. Most of the architecture is simple, predominantly consisting of one floor, with some of the more expensive homes having a second. There are very few extravagant homes, so if that is what you are looking for you will probably need to hire a contractor and buy empty land.

You may wonder how Bellevue is a small city with nearly 43,000 residents. The answer is simple, they are spread out. Bellevue city limits encompass 13 miles of land, not a small amount by any means. This leaves ample room for housing and a little bit of nature in between. While looking at Bellevue real estate listings, you may be immediately sold by the prices you encounter. However, there are other positives about the city. It has extremely mild weather, falling just in the United States average on all accounts for most of the year. If you are looking for a quiet town that is within driving distance of a larger city, then Bellevue is the place for you. It offers serene living but does not isolate you from large populations.
